I’m so sad that I finished Durarara!! :( It was cute and short and gave me another series to obsess over for a while but I still feel like a lot of things went unanswered.
I’ll start with Celty. To me it just felt like she gave up trying to find her head. I get that she accepted her headless self but didn’t she want to know about her past? And then when she found out where it was she didn’t go storm the Pharmaceutical place to go get it although I’m sure by that time Namie had delivered it to Izaya. It’s like, why didn’t she go get her head? Why wouldn’t she want to know who she was before anymore? I felt like that was a bad move on the writers part because they introduced a “mysterious” character with an unknown background and then gave up on the idea of reuniting her head with her body and solving the mystery of her past. The one thing that was so important to her and gave her depth as a character was dropped, and that just doesn’t sit well with me.
Moving on to Izaya, I want to start off by saying THIS Nigga… Man Izaya aint shit lmao But even so he was one of my favorite characters, just stirring shit up all for his benefit. All these people getting hurt and fucked up and he’s sitting in his office laughing about it. I can’t stand him but I love him for that at the same time xD Anyway, my question about him is why did he want Celty’s head? Did he think she would come after it? And what would he have done if she did? I’m thinking he took it as a “favor” to Namie for his own benefit because the Pharmaceutical company that had it was about to be taken over by that other company and she didn’t want them to discover it. Speaking of Namie, why is she his secretary all of a sudden!? Is it to watch over the head? I mean, I don’t think she’d be able to stop Izaya if he really wanted to do something with it… Anyway, I wish they would have gone into detail about why he was the way he was. He just kept saying “I love ppl” but they could have given him a back story rather than just doing they “It all started with Shizuo met Izaya in High School..” I mean, he was a major character and all the other major characters had back stories! Well, I guess it has something to do with generally keeping any information about him elusive. He’s the one with all the answers yet no one knows anything about him other than the fact that he has 2 incestuous younger twin sisters… Meh.
Next is Shizuo and Kasuka. I LOVE SHIZUO!!!! XD Omg love love love him and his back story and how he just automatically knew Izaya wasn’t shit when he first met him. I did end up feeling sorry for him a little because he’s ridiculously powerful and he doesn’t like violence, but I think, in the end, his strength suits his personality. One thing I wish they would have done is make a love triangle with him, Celty, and Shinra. Once you found out he and Celty were friends they didn’t let up on the fact that Celty admired his strength. It would have been cute to add that in the mix on top of everything else, but that’s just the fangirl in me lol Even though Kasuka wasn’t a main character, and he wasn’t in Ikebukuro most of the time, I wish him and Shizuo’s relationship was expanded on. They implied that they were close but they didn’t really go into detail on it. Plus I wanted to see how they interacted with one another. Kasuka’s quiet but I’m sure he opens up around his brother and shows the real him. I would have liked to see a cute sappy brother moment between them and see Kasuka’s personality expand. But that’s also probably because of me being a fangirl…
Everything else was satisfactory. I enjoyed the anime and the characters and I can’t wait to start reading the fanfiction and doujinshi! (fangirling)
